♻️ NEXTGEN ECONOMY: UTILIZING WASTE AS AN ASSET IN A NEW ECONOMY

NEXTGEN ECONOMY: UTILIZING WASTE AS AN ASSET IN A NEW ECONOMY

Under the pressure of rapid urbanization, consumer growth, and climate change, a new perspective on waste is gradually emerging: waste is no longer the end of the value chain, but the starting point for new business models. In Vietnam, from tech startups to multinational corporations, more and more entities are participating in the game of exploiting waste resources.

In reality, the value of waste does not lie in the discarded material itself, but in its ability to reorganize its life cycle. When waste is sorted, digitized, traceable, and its impact measured, it immediately becomes a quantifiable asset. This is the key factor helping many startups shift from operationally-intensive models to scalable models that attract investment and generate recurring revenue.

Environmental technology startups approach the waste problem not from the final processing stage, but from managing the waste flow at the source with:

Building a data platform that helps businesses track waste volume, recycling rates, and compliance with ESG standards.

Not only urban waste, but also agricultural by-products such as shrimp heads and shells are processed by Vietnam Food (VNF) into bioactive substances for livestock and crop farming.

Large corporations like Unilever Vietnam are collaborating with other large corporations to collect and recycle plastic waste, reducing the amount of virgin plastic and increasing the recycling rate.

As environmental costs are more clearly reflected in international policies and standards, business models based on recycling, reuse, and environmental data will gain an increasingly significant competitive advantage. For startups, this is an opportunity to stay ahead of the market, build core competencies, and capture value niches that traditional models have yet to adapt to.
